Depression involves measurable changes in brain chemistry. Serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine become dysregulated. You cannot think your way out of a chemical imbalance.

Anxiety is your alarm system stuck “on.” The amygdala fires constantly, flooding you with cortisol. The physical symptoms—racing heart, tight chest, nausea—are real.

When someone thinks about suicide, their brain is not saying “I want to die.” It is saying “I want the pain to stop, and I cannot see another way.” The desire is for relief, not death. And relief exists through treatment, connection, and time. The pain is temporary. The solution is permanent. They are not equal.

If you are in this dark place: the fog will lift. Not because I said so. Because that is what fog does. And when it does, you will see the world you almost left—and it will be worth staying for.
